About StarJam
Making a
Difference
StarJam is a super-charity – one where everyone who gets involved benefits.
StarJam’s performance programmes provide limelight opportunities for young people with disabilities. Known as “Jammers” these kids gain respect, confidence, empowerment, new friends, new hope and new purpose within a fun and inclusive atmosphere. Jammers and their families share their thoughts on what StarJam means to them demonstrating the magic that happens in this super-charity.
“I always wanted to walk but since I’ve been
in StarJam I’m glad I’m in a wheelchair.” Olivia Shivas
“When they believe in you
- you can do anything. I LOVE StarJam”. Katrina Williams
Not only do the Jammers get heaps out of their experience but the wildly positive change affects not just them and their families but their peers and the wider able-bodied community. The host of celebrities and StarJam supporters who help out are genuinely touched by the kids’ talent and their gutsy performances.
StarJam produces shows with casts of around 100 children at a time but demand has continued to outstrip the availability of performance spots. Weekly performance programmes in singing, dancing, guitar and percussion currently provide places for 240 young people with disabilities in Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington. StarJam does not receive any money from central government and is 100% dependant on grants, donations and the generosity of people like you.
